A Tribute to
General Indar Jit Rikhye
(India’s Peacekeeper on the Global Stage)
This website also honors the legacy of Major General Indar Jit Rikhye, Ravi’s father - the first Indian Army officer who was personally chosen by the Indian Government after Independence to represent India at the United Nations.
He served as the Military Advisor to UN Secretary-Generals, led peacekeeping missions in Gaza, Congo, Cyprus, and the Middle East, and helped establish India’s image as a responsible global military power.

This book warns that India is not prepared for a two-front war against China and Pakistan due to underfunded defense capabilities.
It argues that without increasing Military spending, India risks repeating the strategic failures of 1962 — on both fronts.

FACE OFF! presents a bold, data-rich analysis of India’s preparedness for a two-front war, combining detailed Military comparisons with strategic foresight.
Endorsed by leading defense experts, it is essential reading for policymakers, analysts, and anyone concerned with India’s national security.
The Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 – Volume 3 offers a detailed, illustrated account of the fierce offensives and counteroffensives along the south-western border.
Drawing from official records and personal accounts, it captures the Military intensity and strategic turning points that led to the creation of Bangladesh.
Customer Reviews
Ravi Rikhiye is an acknowledged expert on Indian defence affairs. He does not mince words on the successive failings of Indian governments during the the last seven decades of independence to ensure security of Indian borders.
Heavy going at times, on account of detailed analysis of varying scenarios. However even a novice on defence issues will find it captivating, just skip details of military dispositions in the tables.
A must read for anyone interested in Indian security options.
One would think that a book written by an Indian author would be full of jingoism and hyperbole but Rikhye's book is far different . In fact the overall narrative gives credit to the Pakistanis for holding on in certain pockets even though they knew they had been dealt a losing hand . There is also some criticism and admiration for the Indian side ; on one hand some officers advanced slowly while others improvised and took advantage of tactical chances. It was once seen as a "tri service" war but there are some instances where it clearly shows that this was not so l, resulting in some friendly fire incidents - this is probably the first time that I am reading about Indian friendly fire casualties. As the author says initially , he was hampered by the destruction of official records on both sides. In spite of that this is a highly balanced narrative of the operations on the Eastern Front in the 1971 Indo-Pak war.

If you are looking for an excellent well researched, knowledgeable and brutally honest analysis of the dynamic military/ strategic situation which India finds itself in, one need look no further. I have read many authoritative works by renowned entities like Janes, famous Indian military leaders, and defence analysts. Few if any come close to the wealth of authoritative information and analysis provided by the author, Mr. Rikhye. I got hooked to Mr. Rikhye's works ever since I stumbled on his orbat website a few decades back where he put forth detailed articles on the evolution and history of Indian army and its TO&E. Since then I have purchased all his published works. Those that are out of print I have gone to great length to borrow from library loans. If you are a serious military historian/enthusiast in general and if you have specific interest in the Indian sub continent I am confident this will be one of the best purchases you will make and like me you will be hooked to Mr. Rikhy,s outstanding publications. I hope he receives a lot of well deserved support for his scholarly publications and I earnestly hope he publishes many more similar works.
